Cala Torta

Information

Cala Torta, located on the northeastern coast of Mallorca near Artà, is known for its stunning natural beauty and tranquil atmosphere. The beach is surrounded by wild cliffs and untouched nature, making it an ideal spot for those seeking a serene beach experience away from the crowded tourist hotspots. Visitors have highlighted various aspects:

  • Beautiful Setting: Many users describe the cove as a beautiful and relaxing place, perfect for swimming and sunbathing.
  • Natural Ambiance: The beach maintains a wild and natural vibe, with clear turquoise waters and fine, golden sand.
  • Less Crowded: Due to the challenging access, this spot tends to be less crowded compared to other beaches on the island.
  • Wildlife: Some visitors noted a variety of marine life, ideal for snorkeling.

However, there are notable drawbacks:

  • Access Challenges: The beach is only accessible via a steep, long walk (approximately 20-30 minutes) from the parking area, which can be strenuous.
  • Limited Facilities: There are minimal facilities available; no bars or restaurants nearby, just lifeguards on duty.
  • Seaweed Presence: Some users reported the presence of seaweed in the water, which can affect swimming conditions.

Overall, Cala Torta is a hidden gem for nature lovers and those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of crowded beaches. Just remember to bring water, snacks, and proper footwear for the hike!

Fantastic experience: The path from the parking lot is long (20 min walk), steep, and very damaged, making it difficult to navigate (especially with a stroller). Due to its remote location and poor path, the beach is wonderfully quiet with few small children. There is a lifeguard, but no other facilities. Beautiful bay with a large sandy beach surrounded by rocks, making it great for snorkeling. At the waterline, there is a high edge of washed-up seaweed, but the water itself is crystal clear. About 30-50% of the visitors were topless or nude, and everything is mixed together: young, old, couples, families, groups. Everyone accepts and respects each other, creating a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere.

Fantastic experience: Cala Torta is one of the most beautiful and unspoiled coves on the northeast coast of Mallorca, near the town of Artà. It is known for its wild, natural beauty and offers a somewhat secluded beach experience compared to the more famous beaches on the island. ### Features of Cala Torta: - **Untouched Nature**: Cala Torta is surrounded by dunes and hills covered with typical Mediterranean vegetation. The beach is quite wide and long, with fine, golden sand and clear, turquoise water. - **Wild Atmosphere**: The cove has a natural, undisturbed feel, as it is not heavily developed. There are only a few facilities, which contributes to the calm and secluded mood. - **Swimming and Snorkeling**: The water at Cala Torta is clean and excellent for swimming and snorkeling. Due to its location, the cove can sometimes be exposed to stronger waves and winds, making it interesting for surfers as well. - **Access**: The cove is reachable via a bumpy but picturesque road. This somewhat difficult approach helps keep Cala Torta less crowded than other beaches. - **Rustic Beach Bar**: There is a simple beach bar ('chiringuito') on-site that offers snacks and drinks. The setting is basic but charming, serving typical Mallorcan dishes like fresh fish. Cala Torta is ideal for nature lovers and those seeking a quiet, natural beach away from the crowded tourist hotspots. It is a wonderful place to enjoy the untouched beauty of Mallorca.

Positive experience: The footpath from the easily accessible parking lot takes about 30 minutes. The path is rocky but manageable; however, we advise against shoes without a sturdy sole. Access to the sea cannot be used at all points - it is partially blocked by lifeguards at those mentioned spots. The beach is not overly crowded during peak times. Algae are present due to the natural state of the area. The sand is amazing. Anyone looking for a quiet spot away from tourist hotspots will find this place perfect.

Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach, 1.4 km down the broken road from where you can park your car. Decent shoes are a good idea, sandals were ok. Bring plenty of water. It took us around 15 minutes to get down to the beach and around 16 to get back up, but I sure felt the way up a lot more. Parts of the beach are fairly steep, so it might be a good idea not to bring your younger kids here. But it's definitely worth the trip.

Fantastic experience: October 2023: The access is closed from the turnoff to Cala Mitjana, so parking must be done here. The road is paved up to this point. It takes about 20 minutes to walk down to the beach. The beach bar is no longer there. There are also no toilets. Only a lifeguard was present. Because of this, the cove was not so crowded. We found it very beautiful.

Fantastic experience: A very beautiful natural beach. You can only drive up to the barrier and then you have to walk down for about 20 minutes, as the road there is quite damaged. There are neither toilets, changing rooms, nor restaurants, and no sun loungers or umbrellas. The water is very clear and the view of the turquoise-blue sea is simply stunning. It's definitely worth the effort to go, you'll be rewarded!

Fantastic experience: Hidden sandy beach, no bars or restaurants nearby. There are lifeguards around the clock. The first gas station is about 15 minutes' drive from the beach. The problem is that the access to the beach is private property and there is a ramp that you cannot pass. There is no parking, you park along the road or at the end of the road there is a meadow full of stones where you can stop, of course it is free. From the parking lot, you have a 15-minute walk downhill to the beach. The plaza is big, not so crowded. There is too much seaweed and the water is colder than the beaches in the southern part of the island. It's worth seeing, but on the way to the parking lot, be prepared to walk uphill for about 25 minutes.

Positive experience: The cove looks beautiful. The beach is monitored by lifeguards and tends to have particularly many waves. Therefore, it is very weather-dependent. There are beautiful coastal paths around the cove for walking or hiking. An advantage is that the beach is relatively uncrowded.

Fantastic experience: You can surf here sometimes! I guess it’s a super hidden insider spot for surfers (wave surf) never imagined to be able to surf in Mallorca, but guys here it’s possible.

Marcelo Acero 3 years ago

Fantastic experience: It wasn't the best day to go to the beach, we came to snorkel and enjoy a swim in a little-frequented and natural cove, but we still enjoyed it a lot, we saw the show of the waves breaking while the red flags were waving.

Positive experience: Very beautiful, guarded natural beach with fine sand - also great for snorkeling. Well suited for families. (Almost) no shade available, so bring your own. Free parking in a small pine forest is accessible via a rather dilapidated access road - caution: deep potholes must be navigated at a snail's pace!

Fantastic experience: A very quiet beach with beautiful waters. There is a walk to get there, but it wasn't crowded even though it was August. There were some seaweeds, but it felt super nice. The only downside is that I saw very little while snorkeling; the seabed is beautiful but has low animal diversity. Still, I would return because it is very beautiful and the sea is very calm.

Consigliatissima

Fantastic experience: Amazing beach. Every time we come, we visit here several times, but before noon. So we go early. The road is not very good, and walking a few minutes is just how it is everywhere at good beaches. The water is transparent, and it very slowly but surely goes deeper. At the exit of the cove, there are many fish. And if you climb up the hill on the left, there is a beautiful view of the nudists :-)

Fantastic experience: Great bay, only reachable on foot. The path is about 1400 m long and not entirely accessible. Not recommended for strollers or similar. Important, after 11:00 the live guards arrive and assess the situation. So keep an eye on the flag that is flying at the barrier by the parking lot. Otherwise, the walk to swim could quickly be in vain.

Fantastic experience: With children, do not access from Cala Mesquida: very dangerous! (Rocky cliffs). Access through the junction with Cala Mitjana is much more accessible (old road closed to traffic). In both cases, about 20 minutes of walking. Nice beach with few people compared to other beaches. Supervised only from 11:30 AM during high season.

Positive experience: The bay was quite alright, but you cannot drive close to it; you have to walk another 1 km. The cars just before the bay are misleading. One should consider wearing hiking shoes beforehand, as the path is very rocky and has many uneven spots.

Fantastic experience: A very beautiful bay and you can definitely say it is not overcrowded. You can park in the designated parking area, 20 minutes on foot to the bay. Only the lifeguards are allowed to drive down.

Positive experience: I give a rating of *4 stars .. For the beach itself .. but 1* for the access.. .. I know that to be a beach advertised as exceptional on Instagram or any other site, there has to be some kind of difficulty. In this case, it was to put a fence about +/- 1.5 km from the beach, to force everyone to make this walk ... anyway, these are the times!!!

Fantastic experience: What an incredible beach! You can't reach it by vehicle; instead, you need to walk down a 1.2km path along a very old and rough road. The hike back up the cliff can be challenging, but I found the experience enjoyable. Though small, the beach is stunningly beautiful. Remember to bring an umbrella and plenty of food and drinks, as there are no facilities down there, except for a local selling water and fruit. The water is crystal clear. While there was a jellyfish warning and some tourists cautioned us, I spent my time swimming and fortunately didn’t encounter any. I highly recommend visiting—it’s definitely worth the effort.

Fantastic experience: Very nice beach, rather natural, luckily no sunbeds. There were also a few naked people there. The access leads over uneven terrain and takes 20 minutes. In the afternoon, a beach vendor came by selling Mojitos and Sangria. One should at least wear Birkenstocks, better closed shoes. It is not really doable with a stroller, better to carry the kids for a bit.

Fantastic experience: It wasn't the best day to go to the beach, we came to snorkel and enjoy a swim in a little-frequented and natural cove, but we still enjoyed it a lot, we saw the show of the waves breaking while the red flags were waving.

Fantastic experience: Anyone looking for a quiet natural beach will love this one. The slightly uncomfortable journey with a 20-minute walk from the parking spot on the street means there are not many people here. Lifeguards are present, and in the afternoon, a fruit seller arrived. There is minimal shade, so you should bring your own sun protection. For us, a dream beach!!!

Positive experience: Walk about 15 minutes on uneven roads & paths. But when you’re there its a nice relaxed beach. There is a lifeguard and nothing else so bring water and snacks.

Fantastic experience: Incredibly beautiful beach! The way from the parking lot to the cove itself goes along an old blocked access road and takes about 16 minutes to go down and 20 minutes to come back. The path is marked as 25 minutes, which we did not need :) In the cove itself, there were lifeguards on the day of our visit and to the right side, there was shade from a rock outcrop. It was generally very quiet and not crowded.

Positive experience: It is a natural park with hiking trails but poorly marked. There are 3 coves nearby: Torta, Mitjana, and Streta. You leave your car and have to walk about 20 minutes to reach the beach... Beautiful path, dune area under restoration, and for being a cove, the beach is large... But... what is said about the seaweed in other comments is true!!! Lots of seaweed, so much that it forms mounds on the shore, rotting and smelling terrible, and the water is very murky/choppy.

Fantastic experience: One of the most beautiful beaches in Mallorca. Quiet, idyllic. A positive detail for me: The parking spaces directly on the beach have been removed, which requires a walk between the parking lot and the beach, but the area around the beach is much quieter as a result. Beginning of May 2024: Lifeguards are present, but no food options available.

Fantastic experience: For me, one of the most beautiful beaches on the whole island. The waves are perfect, the water is crystal clear, and it is not really crowded. Also, the intrusive beach vendors that can be found everywhere else are not present here. To get to the beach, a short walk is necessary since the lower part of the road has been destroyed by bad weather/rain. However, there are plenty of parking spaces available in the upper area.

Positive experience: We were there on a Friday at the end of September. Essentially a very beautiful cove, but like everything else in Mallorca, it was very crowded. Although it is about a 20-minute walk from the parking lot and the path is quite rocky, many families with small children were present. We had some bad luck with the weather, as swimming was not allowed. Therefore, tip: check in advance if red flags are flying. However, I don't know where you can do that. There were lifeguards on site until 5 PM, who also whistled at people if they were too far out in the water. Conclusion: If you are looking for a quiet place to swim and snorkel, you are in the wrong place. However, this has been the case at all the beaches/coves we visited in the north of Mallorca. Despite it being almost the end of September, it was crowded everywhere. Even in places that were quite difficult to reach. Well, it is not our island, and we prefer to go to another island that is not so popular.

Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach with magnificent waves and clear sand. The beach is located in a small, natural bay. Usually, only a few visitors get lost here - but you have to expect a rocky descent of about 20 minutes and should have suitable footwear and water with you. There are no trash cans here, nor bars or anything similar, but there is a lifeguard. A sign warns of caution while swimming, as the sea here is a bit wilder. Those who want to enjoy nature and clear water are in the right place. Those who cannot handle this are better off at the crowded tourist beach. ;)

Fantastic experience: From our experience this was one of the nicest Calas in Mallorca. There is a relatively long walk which in not too hot weather is enjoyable. The beach is clean and the water nice. We found quite some plastic in the water which we removed, this is of course the result of plastic abandoned elsewhere and transported into the sea… the overall experience was nice: a good hike, few people, luckily no services on the beach which would spoil the experience. The trails nearby were also clean.

Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach surrounded by the greenery of a pine forest where you can move to rest in the shade to smell the scent of the woods and the sounds of wildlife. Stunning water of a crystalline blue that's almost unreal, putting pool water to shame. Great for families with kids with gentle sloping water. There's a crowded bar with high prices, €3 for a bottle of water. Bring your own drinks and food from home. The beach is absolutely worth it. Byeeeeee

Positive experience: A well-developed road leads to a parking lot. The rest has to be done on foot. It's physical, but not very exhausting. But please pay attention to sturdy footwear here as well. This beach is monitored by lifeguards. On the day we were there, unfortunately, we couldn't go in the water (red flag).

Fantastic experience: A beach worth visiting! Park on the side of the road, no dedicated parking. After a 15-minute easy walk (in sneakers!), you reach the first beach, (Cala Torta) quite busy but very beautiful. Just a 5-minute additional walk to reach Cala Mitjana, which was almost empty upon our arrival. Turquoise water, sandy beach, perfect! On Cala Torta, there's a small drink kiosk. On Cala Mitjana, nothing.

Positive experience: It is a bit of a walk from the parking lot. The beach is nice and not too crowded due to the running path as well. There was a lifeguard tower staffed with two lifeguards, and the flag system indicated the danger level. There were no restrooms or shopping options.

Fantastic experience: The bay Cala Torta is already wonderful. Many waves, clear water. But the road there is quite tough in the heat. The road is closed due to numerous potholes and you have to walk a good half hour to get there. No shade on the beach, no 'kiosk', so make sure to bring enough to drink.

Fantastic experience: I walked from Gala Mesquida (about 20 minutes) along a small path to the beach. And Baaaaang, there it was... I haven't seen such a beautiful deserted place in a long time. I was at the beach from about half past nine to half past twelve, and even when I left, there was hardly anyone around. Well, I have to say that in the background you can see in the pictures what is brewing... wind, rain, or even a storm. That may have discouraged many from taking the path. Furthermore, the beach area is monitored, top guys.

Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach with wonderfully clean water, although there are some algae, including along the shore. However, there are few people, and the overall view of the sea is beautiful. You have to leave your car far from the beach, and it takes about 15 minutes to walk. Truly a magnificent beach, the only thing missing is a bar or restaurant. If you decide to come here, the journey itself offers a great view of the sea and the surroundings. Awesome.

Fantastic experience: We have been visiting this bay regularly for years. Since this year, it is no longer possible to drive down to the beach. The gravel road is closed. Fortunately, one might say, because there are fewer people at the beach and you can enjoy more, plus you immediately get your workout in. Otherwise, this bay is simply breathtaking..the water is crystal clear and snorkeling is definitely worth it. We will come back, no question.

Fantastic experience: A very beautiful natural beach. You can only drive up to the barrier and then you have to walk down for about 20 minutes, as the road there is quite damaged.

Positive experience: Not very nudist beach as it says in various guides and websites. We visited in June 23 Cala Torta and Carla Estreta and we spot just one couple naked at Cala Estreta. But beautiful beach. Important: 1,2 km before arriving to the beach you will see an extremely bad road. The cracks in the asphalt are so bad that your car can get stuck there. You either have a high car 4x4 or walk 1,5km till you get to the beach. But it’s worth it.

A Eliza 1 year ago

Positive experience: Nice sand. Beautiful water. If you park at the end of the pavement and walk down, it’s 20 minutes, downhill. Walking back is a bit of a punish uphill. If you are more comfortable to drive on broken rocks and dirt then it’ll be much easier to access.

Positive experience: A very pretty beach. There was lots of neptune grass when we visited in december. You can walk here from the village parking. It was approx 3 km to get through the woods and approx 2 km to get there along the cost. The coastal trail is difficult to walk, you need proper walking shoes at it is very steep and rocky in some places.
