Platja Granadella

Information

The Platja Granadella, located near Jávea on the Costa Blanca, is renowned for its stunning beauty and crystal-clear waters. While many users have praised its picturesque setting, several recurring issues have been highlighted about accessibility and overcrowding.

  • Strengths:
    • Beautiful scenery with turquoise waters ideal for snorkeling and swimming.
    • A great spot for kayaking and enjoying local seafood at nearby restaurants.
    • Impressive cliffs and lush pine forests enhance the natural environment.
    • The platform in the water offers a fun experience for swimmers.
  • Weaknesses:
    • Poor accessibility due to limited parking, especially during the summer months.
    • Long waiting times for shuttle buses from distant parking areas.
    • The beach is often overcrowded, making it difficult to find space to relax.
    • Rocky terrain makes it uncomfortable without proper footwear, and jellyfish presence has been noted in the waters.

A visit to Platja Granadella can be extremely rewarding if you plan your trip wisely, aiming to go early or during off-peak times to truly enjoy this gem.

Fantastic experience: Hidden gem. We have visited in April during Easter Holidays. It was a little bit crowded and we had to park quite far away (there is parking along the road up the cliff). However this place was absolutely stunning with breathtaking views of turquoise water and surrounding rocky terrain. Beach was sheltered from wind which was perfect in April when temperatures are still mild. Perfect for snorkelling and exploring sea life of coastal rocky formations .

Fantastic experience: Super beautiful place! While traveling across Spain, we stumbled upon this hidden gem! It’s a stunning area with warm water and breathtaking mountain views. Though there’s no sandy beach and it’s rocky, we didn’t mind because we were always in the water! Be prepared to park on top of the mountain; it’s worth it just for the view!

Negative experience: Positive: nice cove (what you can find nearly everywhere in the world) Negative: parking 9€ on steep road (if you are lucky) No shade Very big uncomfortable stones Fly's everywhere Don't be sad if you missed it, there is nothing to miss. The sea directly in front of xabia is better tbh.

Fantastic experience: This rocky gravel beach is always packed in the summer. It is a good place to take canoes or kayaks from. Various companies base themselves here for this sort of thing. Parking is a bit of a nightmare here and in the summer the number of cars that get here is restricted and I think there is a charge for parking.

Negative experience: Really overrated and flooded with tourists. There are many nicer beaches in the area. And you can hardly park.

Fantastic experience: Beautiful turquoise water. There are kayaks tours. Two small restaurants. One was closed when we got there. There was an ambulance on site and around 4 lifeguards Mind that they're is no sand, only pebbles and rocks. There's no shade, no trees, so bring your umbrellas and chairs. No dogs allowed. The worst parking ever. If you go there, I recommend not to go on weekends. Other than the parking is a great place to spend the whole day

Positive experience: Really nice looking beach and one of the most good loking on the photos in spain. I would love to say it is secluded but there are usually plenty of people around 10AM. There are restaurants around so drinks and food provided. Dogs are forbidden, no shower and the entrance into the watter is not the most pleasant one because of the big rocks.

V sezóne to tu bude asi plnka - fullka. Odporúčam ísť semka v septembri a užijete si kľud, krásnu čistú vodu.

Fantastic experience: Granadella Beach (Platja Granadella) is located on the Costa Blanca near Jávea (Xàbia) in the province of Alicante, Spain. This beach is known for its impressive beauty and clear waters, which is why it is often referred to as one of the best beaches in Spain. Here is a detailed review: ### Location and Accessibility - **Location**: The beach is about 10 kilometers south of Jávea. - **Accessibility**: Access to the beach is via a winding but well-maintained road. In peak season, parking can be a challenge as the parking area is limited. ### Beach Condition - **Sand and Water**: Granadella Beach is a small pebble beach surrounded by crystal-clear waters. The water has a stunning blue color that is enhanced by the pebbly bottom and surrounding rocks. - **Cleanliness**: The beach and water are very clean, ensured by regular maintenance. ### Activities - **Swimming and Snorkeling**: Due to the clear visibility, the beach is ideal for swimming and snorkeling. You can discover a variety of marine life and interesting rock formations. - **Hiking**: There are also hiking trails nearby that offer spectacular views of the coastline. ### Facilities - **Restaurants and Bars**: There are some restaurants and beach bars serving local specialties and fresh seafood. Prices are a bit higher due to the beach's popularity. - **Toilets and Showers**: Public toilets and showers are available and are regularly cleaned. - **Sun Loungers and Umbrellas**: These can be rented, but the number is limited, so it is advisable to arrive early. ### Atmosphere - **Visitors**: The beach is popular with both locals and tourists. In peak season, it can get very crowded, which may affect the tranquil atmosphere. - **Surroundings**: The surrounding landscape is stunning, with pine forests and rocky cliffs giving the beach a secluded and natural vibe. ### Conclusion Granadella Beach is a beautiful beach that is particularly attractive to nature lovers and water sports enthusiasts. Although it can be crowded in peak season, a visit is worthwhile due to its breathtaking natural beauty and excellent conditions for snorkeling and swimming. It is best to plan your visit outside the main travel times to fully enjoy the peace and unspoiled nature.

Fantastic experience: La Cala Granadella is a beautiful cove located in Jávea, on the Costa Blanca. Known for its crystal clear waters, it is a perfect destination for snorkeling and diving. There are several restaurants to eat there; we ate at La Bandideta. Parking the car costs €9 for the whole day. (It is advisable to go early to park close). It is also recommended to bring water shoes, as the beach has stones.

Positive experience: A very small and crowded cove. No sunbeds or anything can be rented. The cove is entirely made of stone and the water gets deep fairly quickly. There is vehicle access control, and at a certain time, no more vehicles are allowed in; you can access on foot or by the tourist truck. It's not worth it, too many people. In the area, there is a restaurant and what I would highlight the most is the kayak rental.

Negative experience: They don't let you go down to park at the cove if you don't have a reservation for accommodation or a restaurant. You have to park at La Guardia Park and take the bus that comes every 50 minutes and costs €5 for a round trip to the cove.

Vistas espectaculares y a disfrutar.

Negative experience: What a pain of a beach. I went in September, during the week, and thank goodness. I didn't pay, and there were hardly any people. But they charge you to enter a beach and to park at the top of a mountain and walk a lot. Then you have to climb back up to get the car. In short, it's a shame. The beach is nice, but they just take your money, which is the only thing they know how to do well. You can control access, I think that's fine... but you can do it without charging, right? Not everyone can afford to pay to go to the beach these days, for gas, food... It ends up costing a lot to spend a day at the beach.

Negative experience: Out of all the beaches I visited in the Cap de la Nao area (Granadella, Potixoll, Ambolo, Tiestos, Llebeis, Caleta Dins, Moraig...), this is undoubtedly the worst. It was packed with jellyfish, and the Red Cross service didn't open until 11:00. The swimming area was full of paddle surfboards and kayaks. The beach is uncomfortable to lie down on: very little space and all large stones. The sunbed service is exorbitant and the parking is a sloping street with few machines to make the payment. There are much more beautiful and larger coves. Disappointed.

Fantastic experience: Es espectacular.

Negative experience: In my opinion, this cove is a tourist trap, as it has occasionally been named the best cove in Spain. I have been there many times, and usually the water is murky and you can't go snorkeling. Entering and leaving the water without booties is a nightmare. The access by car and parking is the same story. The overcrowding takes away the desire to enjoy it. There are coves around that are less crowded and have clearer water. And in terms of Spain, I wouldn't place it even in the top 20.

Negative experience: From afar, everything looks idyllic, but when you're in the water and see that bluish-white color as if someone poured milk in it or the water was contaminated, it's not so pleasant anymore. As for the snorkeling I've read about here, I don't know if you have to go 200 meters from the shore or what they are talking about. A true disappointment, we thought it would be like the ones in Cabo de Gata in Almería and the water is as murky as a public children's pool at closing time.

Positive experience: The cove, as mentioned, is very beautiful with crystal clear waters, ideal for diving and discovering small caves. However, the access to it, while straightforward, requires you to be there between 8:00 and 9:00 in the morning because after that time it gets overcrowded and no one is allowed in without a prior reservation, for example, for water sports. We were lucky that since we had a reservation for kayaking, they let us in (around 10:00), and even then we had to park up the mountain 1.5 km away, which may not be too much, but on the return with the heat and climbing back it feels endless. Additionally, there were people who couldn't get in for arriving too late and not having a reservation. Knowing this, it is a recommended cove.

Positive experience: ⚠️It is advisable to go before 8 to be able to park close to the beach (1/2 minutes walking). Paid parking (€9). After that time it gets crowded and the walk can extend to more than half an hour. It's nice, with pebbles, but with water shoes, swimming is not complicated. ☢️Notable that when we went there were jellyfish and the water, being stirred up, was not as clear for diving as we thought. ❌️It's small, so starting at 10 there is a lot of crowding and it loses its charm. There is a bar on the beach that opens from 10:30 to 16:00. As a personal opinion, I was a bit disappointed.

Negative experience: A place of stunning beauty, but everything is overshadowed by the horrible service related to parking and the bus transfer from the parking lot to the beach. We waited for the bus for 1.5 hours to get to the beach, but that was nothing compared to the return trip. It was complete chaos! We waited 2.5 hours standing in line to catch the bus! It's impossible to call a taxi, either you can't get through, they hang up, or there's no signal.

Positive experience: Of all the beaches we visited during our stay, Granadella is undoubtedly the one that most durably etched its freshness and panorama in my memories. In the heart of clear water surrounded by high cliffs, reaching the diving platform is a very pleasant experience for bathers of my kind. The unobstructed view of the beach and its surroundings from a unique viewpoint is worth the trek.

Negative experience: The cove is very beautiful, but when we went (August 8th), it was impossible to stay there. We arrived at 2 PM and, fortunately, a car was leaving the parking lot, so we were able to park, because if there is no space and you park at the top, you have to walk 3 km. The parking below is not flat, but goes uphill along the mountain road, so we couldn't park close, and on top of that, you have to pay 10€ regardless of how long you will be there. The beach was extremely crowded; there was no space to lay down a towel, and you can't put up a beach umbrella because there are rocks, so you have to bring water shoes, no exceptions. It's a shame because the cove is very beautiful, but it's better to go in winter.

Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach, actually, the parking is terrible. You can only park nearby for free if you go at night; otherwise, it's €9 and you have to start arriving from 5:30 in the morning because the parking is on a slope that goes up, and the later you arrive, the higher you park. I think there’s another option, which is to park much further away in another parking lot, and there’s a bus that takes you down to the beach in shifts and then picks you up, but I have no idea how it works or the prices. However, going once to see it and swim is worth it.

Fantastic experience: Cala Granadella is a beautiful cove located in Jávea, on the Costa Blanca of Spain. Known for its crystal-clear waters and stunning natural surroundings, it is a popular destination for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts. Negative experience: We went on a bad day. There was a yellow flag and it was a bit dangerous because the waves were throwing you onto the rocks. We encountered an invasion of seaweed and the water was very dirty. Don't go without water shoes; it's impossible to walk without them. If you go after 8 PM in July and August, the parking will already be full and you will have to buy a ticket at a higher parking lot and queue up to take a very cramped bus (although the people who manage it are very nice). I wouldn't repeat the experience at this time.

Negative experience: They don't let you go down to park at the cove if you don't have a reservation for accommodation or a restaurant. You have to park at La Guardia Park and take the bus that comes every 50 minutes and costs €5 for a round trip to the cove.

Negative experience: A dump, cigarette butts, bottle caps, waste, pads. Unexplainable that the blue tray portal has awarded this cove. In fact, it is not elevated in the place. Speaking with the municipal cleaning technicians while they were working, it is common, frustrating, and there should be fines to deter vandal tourist behavior. However, it also seems clear that the current plays an unfavorable role in the accumulation of these waste materials. Arriving at 8 AM guarantees parking and few people. Relatively easy access. Pebble beach. 2 restaurants, showers available. For those who know other types of coves in Catalonia or the Balearic Islands. It’s not worth the early wake-up. A cordial greeting to all readers and sea lovers.

Fantastic experience: A small but very beautiful cove with crystal clear water, the water is comfortable and warm enough. It's better to bring special shoes because otherwise it's very uncomfortable to walk in the water. You can swim to the pier from which everyone loves to jump. Negative experience: They say it's one of the best coves in the Jávea area, but they're wrong, it's hyper crowded. It doesn't matter that you wake up early; we were there at 8:45 and there was parking, but it was a 15-minute walk and uphill... The worst part is not that, it's that it's too small for so many people; you don't enjoy it. On the contrary, any other beach is much better. I suppose in May-June or September-October it will be spectacular, but I don't recommend it during high season. There is a barrier that blocks traffic at certain hours. The password to access the cove when the barrier is down is 'ALICANTE'; they let you through if you are going to eat at restaurants or to nearby houses.

Fantastic experience: We went in July, and to ensure we could park nearby we arrived at 8 in the morning. You can park on a road, and for the last year they charge you 9 euros, which I don’t think is right, to be honest. The early wake-up was worth it because there was no one around and the water was calm and totally crystal clear, and there is a platform in the sea where you can jump from. The downside is that it gets really crowded, and by noon the water started to get filled with jellyfish, making it impossible to swim. Still, it is a beautiful cove; I've been many times and this was the only time I encountered jellyfish. Oh, and there are 3 restaurants to eat at; we reserved in advance a fideuá at Restaurant Sur and it was delicious.

Positive experience: Small and beautiful cove. In the place, you can do water activities such as: kayaking, snorkeling... If you want to eat at one of the three places there, you must make a reservation first. Personally, I recommend Restaurante Sur. On the other hand... Negative experience: From 9am they send you to a housing complex to park and then they take you down by bus, I don't know if the bus and parking cost, I imagine they do based on other reviews. Positive experience: Limited capacity, parking is €9 and you have to walk if you're not lucky enough to find a spot down below; you expect something special, but... it's nice from above, down below the water was murky and you couldn't see anything, very tight space to sit comfortably, small jellyfish stung me twice. It's a place to visit once.

Positive experience: Beautiful cove. Made of stones, wear appropriate footwear. Overcrowded. Parking on one side of the road that goes up, be careful with the car, leave it well and with the handbrake on, we arrived at 8:30 and there was no space left, and for 9 euros all day, a lady from the hour allows you to park. Be careful with the kayak excursions to the cove and the cave next door. There are many companies. I do not recommend the frog at all. Koko Kayak and others explain things to you and are not as overcrowded. 45€ per person, a bit expensive but worth it, not during the hottest hours. Everything is beautiful, but with so many people, it is difficult to enjoy the beauty of the place.

Negative experience: It may be the most beautiful in the world, but it is unacceptable that you can no longer enjoy a public place freely. €9 to park, plus you’re lucky if you get to walk 1 km, and motorhomes can’t even park even if they pay. Just enough to not even get out.

Positive experience: Too crowded already by the end of June. For parking, I suggest using the second parking lot and walking about 1 km calmly, since the one closest to the cove is either for those who arrive early or you'll have to climb and descend a big hill in the full sun. In some reviews, they mention charging €9 (we didn't pay anything). There were quite a few waves, yellow flag. Bring water shoes or appropriate footwear. It's worth visiting but not the best for swimming.

Positive experience: Spectacular beach/cove. Parking is a bit tricky: spaces fill up quickly and you have to pay €9. Go early before it runs out! Otherwise, you can park up before going down to the cove, but there's a long path. The cove itself is rocky, with crystal-clear water and a floating platform to jump from. Bring water shoes! I'm giving it a middle rating to avoid overcrowding, that's just life.

Fantastic experience: A great cove to spend the day near Jávea or Denia. It is advisable to arrive early in the summer, as it has a limited number of parking spaces. We parked on a neighbor's land for 10€, which was highly recommended—car watched and in the shade. There is a beach bar to eat and a little tourist train. 100% recommended to wear water shoes, as the beach is pebbly. Sunbeds and umbrellas can be rented for 10€ each. Ideal for an incredible day of swimming, snorkeling, or kayaking in turquoise water.

Fantastic experience: Impressive place, a must-visit. It is accessed via a narrow road and is monitored by a guard and some assistants who are clearly professionals, super friendly and attentive. My wife is pregnant and they allowed us to go down to the bottom so she wouldn't have to walk from afar, and I later went to find parking, a great detail. I also thought it was very good, when I was returning from parking, that the guard was making sure that the cars were well parked throughout the route, since if it were necessary for an ambulance to pass, for example, there wouldn't be any problems. The place is great and the treatment and professionalism of the access control staff are appreciated. Highly recommended in all aspects!
